Tips for kids.

Halloween is a time of year where adults and kids are very excited and having so much fun. With all the excitement during Halloween sometimes safe practices may be overlooked. Below are some things you should keep in mind to be safe and avoid any tragedies.

Help your child with picking out costumes that you know will be safe. Make sure it is fireproof, and also make sure the eye holes in masks are large enough for your child to see clearly without distractions.

Make sure your child does not carry any sharp objects such as props used for Halloween, Knives, swords, pitchfork, rakes, etc. Make sure those kind of props are flexible so no injuries are caused if your child were to fall onto the props..

If you have placed jack-o-lanterns outside on your porch or any area where people would have access make sure that they are set far enough away so kid's costumes will not accidentally catch on fire.

Pumpkin carving is a very fun activity for kids and can also be very dangerous as well. Be sure to always have an adult help with carving pumpkins. Small children should not be allowed to use sharp objects such as knives. There are pumpkin carving kits and little saws available which are much safer than sharp knives and they work much better but there are still some risks of getting cut. Its best to allow your kids to clean the inside of the pumpkin and draw the faces and have an adult carve them afterwards.

Always better to eat a good meal before venturing out on a trick or treating journey. Halloween themed dinners or snacks are a great way to draw interest to eating before going out and this will also reduce the temptations of kids eating the candy before it is brought home and checked out.

Make sure to stay together when trick or treating so that no one gets lost or attention is drawn away from one especially if there are larger groups of kids that are trick or treating together.

Keeping your kids aware of the dangers will help keep them much safer especially during Halloween so be sure to teach your kids about everyday safety such as looking both ways before crossing the street, not getting into cars or talking to strangers, and always obey street signs and traffic lights.

Halloween can be a safe and happy time for kids and families by simply applying your knowledge of everyday safety to the equation.

so have fun and be safe!
